Mind over matter

Having made the commitment to get back on the proverbial horse again, I have been finding myself a little anxious. Make no mistake, I have some pretty awesome new pieces, as well as many gorgeous antique pieces, on their way to the new place. I guess part of the reason is.....I'm a bit aprehensive on whether the market has really improved. I still hear the media talking about things in such a negative way (this, to be sure has been a thorn in my side. Why are we so willing to listen to the interpretations of news organizations who are so blatantley looking for the next big disaster all under the guise of reporting the news? Fact is, it is about ratings and selling advertising) it's really so discouraging. Yesterday, I had a conversation with a wholesaler who said that once Obama's health care reform was buried, things will get better and people will start spending money. Really? Like this is the one thing that is driving the economy? Ummmmm....having a hard time with that one. Anyway, what do you think? Is everything still doom and gloom or do you feel a flicker of hope? I promise this post is only a small detour. I will get back to the pretties, my dears, soon enough.

  1. Carol, you said it perfectly: MIND OVER MATTER!! Like you, I'm frustrated with the media--which perversely drives consumer fears--which affects all of us trying to make a go of it. HOWEVER, in this evironment, it becomes even more important for people to find something that raises their spirits and beauty that transports them above the mayhem. You are extremely talented, well-connected/partnered, and in a GREAT new location. Fearless OPTIMISM must be your mantra!!! Keep breathing--I know first-hand the silent suffering behind the scenes that accompanies great risk. Keep the faith--you are right on track!!!

    Hugs and happy wishes,

  2. Funny about the whole Obama thing. So untrue.. But you are going to be in a good location, where more money is. This economy is bad. But things will change. Just start out small and don't go big yet. If you get what i mean. Plus it doesnt sound like you r alone in this new venture. Which is good. mishelle

  4. I think everyone should stop watching the news. We are all being scared into not spending and not buying houses, which is killing out local economies and small business owners. Everyone's priority should be their own financial situation and not the country's. If you have money spend it, if you don't then don't put it on credit. If we get our selves out of debt then we wont have to rely on our country to do so. We need to stop being scared and start being creative.

  5. Okay, Carol... getting caught up here and hearing about your new gig brings on a big ole heart swell! :) I concur with Chelsea frankly. I think we have to approach things differently, perhaps, but this whole "run for your lives" approach seems ridiculous. Working in the retail sector I see how things aren't the same as they were 3 years ago, but we've just made some adjustments and are holding our own. I know it must be a bit scary to get back onto the horse but isn't that what they always advise? All we can do at this point is just keep on movin'. And I'll be here to cheer you on! :)
